Senior Health Services FAQ

Frequently asked questions about senior care services.

ASSISTED LIVING MEMORY CARE

How will I know if assisted living is the right choice?

Whether you are concerned about yourself or a loved one, it’s best to start with a physician’s assessment. This will allow us to match the needs to the appropriate level of assistance. When a resident needs help with daily tasks — taking medications, bathing, dressing, meals, transportation or housekeeping — assisted living can be the answer.

At Sedgebrook, our wellness team is available to provide in-home assistance during periods of illness or recovery. For people with more extensive needs, we offer assisted living that also specializes in memory care at Radford Green.

What if my care needs are greater than what’s provided in assisted living?

Since Sedgebrook is a Life Plan Community, we provide access to other levels of care, including skilled nursing. Offered at Radford Green, skilled nursing provides round-the-clock care for those people who need long-term supervision or support.

SKILLED NURSING

What is skilled nursing?

Skilled nursing is specifically designed for those individuals who need greater care while recovering from a hospital stay, or for those who need long-term care. Service is provided around the clock by licensed professionals.

When is skilled nursing necessary?

Skilled nursing provides a higher level of hands-on care and assistance than assisted living. Skilled nursing is the right choice for those individuals who require attentive medical care but don’t have the acute needs that make hospitalization necessary.

REHABILITATION

What do physical therapy and rehabilitation include?

Physical therapy and rehabilitation care plans are specific to each individual and are based on needs and goals. At Radford Green, we have the trained staff and equipment needed to carry out any plan of care to get you back to the life you love.

Is occupational therapy the same as physical therapy?

The two are similar in that both help restore strength and mobility. Occupational therapy also helps people adapt to their social and physical environments through education in activities such as dressing, memory training and coordination exercises.

What can I expect from speech therapy?

Speech and language pathologists address communication issues and swallowing dysfunction. They design treatment plans to help with cognitive issues and language ability, provide alternate communication strategies, and give appropriate dietary recommendations.

RESPITE CARE

When is a short-term respite stay appropriate?

Respite stays are designed to give caregivers a much-needed break from the daily responsibilities of caring for a loved one. Whether you want to go on vacation or simply rest and attend to other responsibilities, a respite stay can provide needed relief and time to take care of yourself. We care for your loved one so you can recharge.

Is there a minimum or maximum number of days my loved one can stay?

Respite stays can last anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks. There is no minimum length of stay.

HOME HEALTH

Will I have to move to assisted living at Radford Green?

In most cases, Sedgebrook’s wellness team can work with you to meet your need for assistance, letting you stay in your apartment home as long as possible.
